Recovery in Haiti
On January 12, 2010 a massive earthquake struck Haiti, displacing over 2.1 million people and reducing many communities to rubble.
Six month's later, Plan remains on the ground in Haiti, helping thousands of people who are still trying to cope with the dreadful aftermath of the devastating 7.0 earthquake. Plan’s relief and recovery work is uplifting thousands of children and their families in Haiti and helping them see a brighter future.
Haiti Earthquake recovery stats
- Plan has provided shelter and support to 39,000 displaced people with tents, family kits and supplies
- Plan has sent family survival kits benefitting over 11,000 people in earthquake-affected areas
- 30 child-friendly spaces were built, providing 4,000 children with safe, supervised areas to play, be educated, and receive support
- Leadership training for 96 youth volunteers in Jacmel on assisting in child-friendly spaces, psycho-social support and child-rights
- Plan has supported 45 schools with tents and transitional classrooms, new furniture, equipment, and washrooms, helping over 10,000 children go back to school
- In partnership with other non-profit organizations, Plan has reached over 120,000 people in border areas to raise awareness of child-trafficking
- Over 80 people from the Haitian police have received training on child trafficking awareness
- Plan has employed 11,800 Haitian people in cash-for-work programs
- Working with partners, Plan immunized nearly 26,000 children against diseases such as measles, diphtheria and tetanus
