We Are Accountable

At Plan International USA, we are first and foremost responsible to the children and their communities and to all our supporters, sponsors and funding bodies. Commitment to accountability and ethical practices and adherence to strong and comprehensive standards are central to everything we do. Recognized as one of the lead non-governmental organizations in the U.S. setting higher standards of accountability, Plan International USA believes in trust, transparency and responsibility.

We recognize our duty to use your contributions as effectively and efficiently as possible and to be accountable to all our stakeholders. Below are some of the ratings and accreditations that Plan International USA has received from charity monitoring groups:


Better Business Bureau (BBB)

Meets all Standards for Charity Accountability
Plan International USA meets the BBB Wise Giving Alliance's accreditation standards. The rigorous evaluation addresses governance, finances, fundraising practices, website disclosures, and donor privacy. Every two years, Plan International USA is voluntarily re-evaluated by the BBB on 20 different measures of accountability.


Charity Navigator

Current Rating for Plan International USA: 4 Stars
Charity Navigator is the largest and most utilized evaluator of charities in the U.S., currently evaluating over 6,000 of America's best known charities on an annual basis. Charity Navigator's rating system currently examines two areas of a charity's performance: Financial Health, and Accountability & Transparency. Each charity is awarded an overall rating, ranging from zero to four stars. Only 18 percent of charities rated have achieved a four-star rating for at least two years, indicating that Plan International USA outperforms most other charities in America.  



Meets all Standards for Membership
Plan International USA is a member of InterAction, the largest alliance of U.S.-based international nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) focused on the world’s poor and most vulnerable people. As a member of this alliance, Plan is required to meet a set of standards covering private voluntary organization (PVO) governance, financial reporting, fundraising, public relations, management practice, human resources and program services.
