Health: Indonesia

Because I am a girl…
I will take care of my babies and learn how to make healthy food.

Food Security and Nutrition Project

In the poorest provinces of Indonesia, child and infant mortality is an epic problem. And while there are a lot of factors that contribute to this shocking situation, one of the biggest issues is poor nutrition. Forced into early marriages and pregnant at a young age, girls simply don’t know how to take care of themselves or their children.

By supporting the Because I am a Girl initiative in Indonesia, you are helping us give these young mothers the knowledge they need to make sure their families are healthy. Through classes and support groups, they’ll learn all about the benefits of breastfeeding, the basics of nutrition, how to grow and prepare food in safe conditions, and the importance of prenatal vitamins. We’re also actively engaging men to help them understand the importance of maternal health and nutrition.
