Call to Action Rally at the
World Bank

On Thursday, April 18, the World Bank Group joined 10x10, Vulcan Productions, and Intel Corporation for an on- and off-line rally calling for the empowerment of girls and women around the world. Featured guest speakers included World Bank President Jim Kim, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, UK Secretary of State for International Development Justine Greening, Because I am a Girl Global Ambassador Freida Pinto, SOLA Founder Shabana Basij-Rasikh, and Girl Rising Executive Producer and 10x10 Executive Director Holly Gordon. The VIP film screening of Girl Rising following the rally was attended by about 300 high-level dignitaries, and the evening’s program was a huge success!

Earlier in the day, Freida also took part in a high-level Learning for All Ministerial Roundtable hosted by the World Bank President, the UN Secretary-General, and the UN Special Envoy for Global Education. The roundtable involved discussion around education challenges and key solutions in Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Haiti, India, Nigeria, Yemen, and South Sudan. Other participants included heads of UN agencies and donor institutions, as well as invited representatives of civil society organizations, including Plan International USA President/CEO Tessie San Martin.
