August: Because I am a Girl Newsletter
Letter from the Editor
As summer comes to a close, we'd like to thank you for your support this season.
Can you believe that back to school time is already upon us? As we think about the excitement of our children and friends returning to school, we think of those whose lives cannot yet return to normalcy - whose routines are interrupted by the violence and unrest in Egypt and South Sudan.
Children, especially girls, are often the most impacted by disasters like these. Donate today and help prepare for disasters before they arise. Your support can make a critical difference in times of great need.
Many thanks to everyone who participated in our recent survey. Your feedback is very important to us! Stay tuned for next month’s newsletter, where we’ll report all the results and debut a new look!
Keep Girls Healthy
True or False: Malnutrition is a contributing factor to the death of 25% of the world's children. False: Malnutrition contributes to over 50% of these deaths.
Thankfully, because of you, young mothers are getting educated about the importance of proper nutrition. Your donations make a difference!

Freida Wins Award
Congrats to our very own Because I am a Girl Ambassador, Freida Pinto, for winning the Condé Nast Traveler magazine 2013 Visionaries Award.
Freida recently returned from a trip to Ethiopia with Plan. She continues to advocate for the education of girls around the world.
"An educated girl will not only dream but also realize her dreams of becoming whoever she wants to be," says Freida. Read more and watch exclusive footage from her trip.
International Youth Day was a great success in recognizing the work young people do to address girls' rights!
Youth come together every day to create innovative solutions to the problems girls face in developing countries. Read what some youth said about their participation with Plan.
Let your voice be heard, too! Get involved or simply join Because I am a Girl in raising awareness about girls' issues around the world.
