Typhoon Haiyan

What is life like for communities after Typhoon Haiyan? For the survivors of the typhoon – known there as Typhoon Yolanda – progress has been made, but there is still a long road ahead. Plan has been working in the Philippines for 52 years, in 420 communities, serving more than 80,000 families including 40,000 Plan-sponsored children.

As one of the largest and well-known international humanitarian and development organizations in the Philippines, Plan has maintained strong relationships in local communities and has gained an in-depth knowledge of the needs faced after a disaster.

A Message of Optimism

A few months after the typhoon, Plan International went around the Philippines' Eastern Seaboard heavily devastated by Haiyan, to engage 280 children and teens for The Youth Reporter Project.

Using handy video cameras and working in small groups with their friends, they were able to comfortably share and process their thoughts and experiences – not only about the typhoon forever changing their lives, but also how they plan to take charge of their future.
