Plan Ghana has presented a tricycle wheelchair to Kofi, a 17 year old disabled school boy from Ghana.

Kofi's community comes to the rescue

Disabled at a very young age and unable to walk any distance, Kofi was always determined to pursue his education. But as he approached the end of primary school, he couldn’t help but worry: the nearest Junior Secondary School was over 5 miles away — and all the students had to walk.

Kofi’s community, however, was not so worried. As they were not going to let Kofi (or other children with difficulties) miss the opportunity for an education, they had decided to build a Junior Secondary School much closer to their community. Today, Kofi is a pupil at the new Junior High School.

And a wheelchair to complete Kofi's participation

Unfortunately, Kofi still had trouble participating in many other activities – such as the local children’s club of which he was a member. This too was a matter of concern to the community.

Hearing their concerns, and seeing Kofi’s inability to fully participate, Plan Ghana presented him with a tricycle wheelchair, complete with tools and accessories. The wheelchair will enable him to transport himself to school as well as to other places locally.

“I wish to express my profound gratitude to Plan Ghana, the Asesewa Program Area Manager and his staff for their love and compassion they have shown for me by presenting me with this wheel chair today." Kofi said.
