For Haitian Children, Play is One of the Best Medicines

Letter from the editor

I’m sure you are aware of the recent tragic events in Haiti. Several of the communities we work in were severely affected, and we are still assessing the full extent of the toll, both physical as well as psychological, on children.

Plan is one of the biggest international organizations in Haiti. We have been working there for 36 years, and have over 140 staff in 10 offices reaching more than 46,000 children. Despite their own losses, staff are working to provide emergency aid to survivors and we expect to play a significant part in the relief and long-term recovery programs.

Tens of thousands of sponsors and donors around the world are helping to make our relief efforts possible. Your contributions have helped provide girls and boys in Haiti with shelter, food, and basic necessities. Your concern and outpouring of support have brought inspiration and motivation. Thank you.

If you are the sponsor of a Haitian child, you are undoubtedly anxious for news of the child's status. Our staff are focused on bringing the basics of care and assistance to the children in the communities where we work and cannot follow up on individual children at this time. Please know that we will continue to provide updates as we receive information and will contact sponsors directly if we receive any news about specific sponsored children.

In the meantime, you can call us with your questions Monday through Friday from 8:30 AM — 6:30 PM ET at 1-800-556-7918.
