See how Plan's soccer projects are improving girls' lives
From tackling violence to accessing school, see how Plan's soccer projects are helping girls to break free from abuse, neglect and poverty.
At the Street Child World Cup in South Africa, where each national team must include at least 1 girl, Plan workshops have been helping girl players to tackle violence, identify problems and find solutions.
"My life was destroyed before. But now I know how to fight for myself," said workshop participant Jessica. "Now I am a woman that knows her worth, who knows being hit by a man is wrong."
Boosting school enrollment
In Ghana, where many girls are persuaded to stay at home rather than go to school, Plan has set up a girls' soccer project - but with a catch. To take part the girls must first enroll in school.
Since the project started 2 years ago, girl school enrollment rates have soared by 15%.
