Youth photography contest launched

Plan and Shoot Experience are back working together for the fifth annual Shoot Nations global youth photography competition. Youth ages 11-25 from all over the world are invited to submit their vision of “city living.”
The “city living” theme is in response to the fact that, for the first time in history, more than 50% of the world’s population now lives in urban areas. Shoot Nations’ metropolitan focus gives kids the chance to tell their city stories with pictures, instead of statistics.
Since the Shoot Experience started, thousands of young people from more than 100 countries have taken part in the online contest, with the hope of being crowned the world’s best young photographer.
The winner of this year's contest will have their work displayed at the United Nations headquarters in New York City.
Plan in the picture
Plan’s Shoot Nations leader George Anang'a explains the commitment to the project: “The competition is about spotting great talent and giving young people a voice.”
"The idea is that the smallest community or family issue in any area of the world can be photographed and displayed at the highest level of global government, the United Nations,” says Anang'a.
Get snapping
The Shoot Nations global youth photography competition is free to enter, and is open to anyone between the ages of 11 and 25. This year judges are looking for images that represent everyday city life. Contestants should submit up to three photos each, accompanied by a brief explanation of why each photo demonstrates the photographer’s feelings about “city living.”
