Hobsons is a premier provider of innovative technology and integrated marketing solutions that empower education professionals to manage the entire student lifecycle, including recruitment, enrollment, and retention. With end-to-end, enterprise-class products built from more than 30 years of education experience and market knowledge, Hobsons helps more than 5,000 global secondary schools, colleges, and universities achieve their goals.

Since 2005, Hobsons and its employees have donated $39,808 to build a school in Kenya; $44,000 to build a school boarding house in Vietnam; $60,979 to construct a kindergarten in Bolivia, and $74,100 to build a school complex in Ghana.

This year, Hobsons' Plan fundraising efforts are focused in the community of Techiman, Ghana, West Africa. Their funds will build a new primary school block with six classrooms, a library, and a teacher's office; construct a water storage facility; provide computer equipment, and more.

In May, Hobsons' employees traveled to Ghana with Plan USA staff to visit the school complex their donations are funding. The following is in the words of one of the travelers from Hobsons UK, Holly Chandler:

The first thing that was apparent when we arrived in Ghana to visit the school Hobsons built with Plan, was what an incredible, worthwhile charity Plan really is. To see the work Plan did, and what Hobsons enabled Plan to do through our fundraising efforts was a truly humbling experience. We saw first hand where funds were allocated and how they were making a difference. We were welcomed with open arms and hearts into the communities where Plan worked and felt privileged to meet the local chiefs, elders, men, women and children and spend time in their community.

The community Hobsons has supported in Techiman, Ghana, is a very small rural fishing village in the central region of Ghana, where the average monthly income is $14 US dollars per month. The community currently has 270 students, with 100% attendance and 100% pass rate at the school since Plan’s involvement. With the support of over 500 global Hobsons staff we raised over $70,000 to build 6 classrooms, a library, latrines and a computer lab as well as providing resources for the schools and access to clean water. Before Hobsons sponsored the school, the children were going to class in makeshift rooms without proper roofs, floors or walls, leaving the classroom open to the elements.

During our time in Ghana we visited 5 schools, each school at a different stage of its development with Plan. What became immediately apparent was how confident, happy, intelligent and inspiring the children were in the schools that had had the longest Plan support. Not only did they have improved facilities and teachers aiding their academic education, they had access to clean water, improved hygienic facilities, emotional support and encouragement aiding their personal development. With the aid of qualified, inspiring teachers who truly believed in and cared for their students these children had a better start at life and more opportunity to break the cycle of poverty they were born into.

The Plan staff in Ghana are truly passionate about the communities they work in, that passion along with the excitement and enthusiasm of the communities was infectious and completely overwhelming. The 10 Hobsons staff members from Australia, America and England who were chosen to represent the company in Ghana felt both proud and privileged to be involved in such an incredible project and to be welcomed so warmly into the community. It truly was a once in a life time experience that we will always remember.
