Plan continues to support camps sheltering displaced families in Pakistan, whose numbers are increasing as flood waters rise in the densely populated areas of Punjab and Sindh.
Plan is focusing on meeting the immediate needs for food, shelter and healthcare among displaced people, whose numbers now reach over 14 million.
Highlights of Plan’s relief efforts
So far, Plan has distributed 75 community-sized tents – 25 each in Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur and Ghotki – to house families displaced by the floods. 80 emergency latrines were installed in Layyah district, and 12 clean drinking water tanks have been set up in various camps.
Plan has shipped over 4,000 health and hygiene kits to the camps, with another 9,000 to follow. Clean delivery kits are now available, and “Newborn Baby and Expectant Mother” health kits - including flyers on breast feeding, cloth diapers, rash cream, folic acid and calcium tabs for lactating mothers - have begun to be distributed. 39,000 milk packs to feed babies and children have also been sent to Layyah and Rajanpur, and medicine and first aid items should reach Thatta district within the next 3 days.
For food aid, Plan has provided cooked meals to nearly 100,000 people and nutritious food packs for another 5,000 families. In the next few days, Plan will also set up community kitchens in the camps with provision of dry rations for affected populations.
Child protection assessments have also been conducted, and Plan is setting up Child-friendly Spaces (CFS) in each Plan-supported camp. The CFS will include caregivers to keep children safe and recreational kits for learning and play.
Plan will continue to work closely with other international organizations and the Pakistan Humanitarian Forum on the relief efforts. Help Plan provide immediate relief to children and families affected by floods in Pakistan.
