2nd earthquake hits Indonesia
September 12, 2007
Indonesia has issued a fresh tsunami warning after a second earthquake, magnitude 6.6, struck 47 miles northwest of Lais Bengkulu in south Sumatra. The second quake struck at 21:40 local time.
There have so far been three reported deaths as a result of the earlier quake, measured at a magnitude of between 7.9 and 8.2, that raised fears of a tsunami across the region. Sri Lanka had earlier withdrawn its tsunami warning although it is not yet clear whether this will be reinstated following the second quake.
We will keep you informed about any further developments.
