Why Move to Stop AIDS?

Worldwide, there are more than 33 million people living with HIV — and the numbers are continuing to rise.

It’s time to get moving!

Be a part of the 2010 Move to Stop AIDS Dance-a-Thon and help tackle the disease. We need to hold world leaders accountable to reach the Millennium Development Goal of halting and reversing the spread of HIV and AIDS. All money raised from the event will help care for orphans and vulnerable children affected by HIV AND AIDS in Zimbabwe, a country with one of the highest prevalence rates in the world.

Come to the event, sponsor a dancer, and spread the word!

How do I participate?

It’s easy to get involved, whether you want to sponsor a dancer or get moving yourself!

1. Register online: Organize a team and register online. Download a sponsor form and get your family, friends, and community to sponsor you to dance. Start a FirstGiving page to allow family and friends to sponsor you directly online, and track your progress! For every $5 you raise in sponsorship, you’ll receive one ticket for the raffle.
2. Become a sponsor: Sponsor a dancer or support Plan USA's HIV and AIDS Programming in Zimbabwe. Contact Kate Ezzes at kate.ezzes@planusa.org for more information about financial donations towards the project.
3. Come to the Dance-a-Thon on Friday, December 10th! Stop by the Dance-a-thon and show your support! Admission is $10 at the door if you're not a sponsored dancer. Raffle tickets will be for sale all night long!
4. Donate items to our raffle! We’re in the process of gathering our raffle prizes — including gift certificates, electronics, and more. If you or your company would like to donate an item to be raffled, contact Kate Ezzes at kate.ezzes@planusa.org. Raffle tickets will be for sale all night for $2, or 3 tickets for $5!
5. Spread the Word! Inform your community about the global HIV/AIDS pandemic. Let them know how they can take action — and enjoy a fun night at Local 121 — by attending the Move to Stop AIDS Dance-a-Thon!

Where does my donation go?

This year, all the donations from the event will go to support Plan USA’s HIV and AIDS program in Zimbabwe. According to UNICEF, Zimbabwe has a higher number of orphans, in proportion to its population, than any other country in the world. As many as 1 in 4 children in Zimbabwe are orphaned as a result of an AIDS-related disease.

One hundred percent of your donation will go toward providing care for children affected by HIV and AIDS in Zimbabwe by:

• Providing Home-based health care and support for nearly 800 families affected by HIV/AIDS.
• Paying school fees for 800 orphans and vulnerable children for two years, in order to increase their access to primary and secondary education.
• Providing food, vocational training, and psychosocial support for 1200 orphans and vulnerable children.

YUGA HIV and AIDS Campaign

YUGA believes that HIV and AIDS can be stopped, and that local action can lead to global solutions. Each year on December 1st — World AIDS Day — YUGA holds a campaign to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and fundraise for projects that address the needs of the millions who are affected.
