World AIDS Day Campaign 2008

Join YUGA in our third annual World AIDS Day Campaign! We are raising awareness about the fact that 33 million people around the world are living with HIV/AIDS (Source: UNAIDS 2007).

This year we want YOU to get active with YUGA!!

Our World Leaders have promised to meet the Millennium Development Goals and halt and begin to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS by 2015. Let’s keep that promise and make HIV/AIDS history!

There are many ways you can join the YUGA campaign. Do as many activities as you like: dedicate an hour, a week, a month, or focus all your efforts on December 1st — World AIDS Day.

How can you get involved?

1. Educate yourself
   • Know the facts
   • Get tested — Demonstrate your shared commitment to stopping the spread of AIDS in your community. Knowing your status protects everyone.
   • Protect yourself
2. Educate others
   • Run an interactive activity {pdf, 1M} in your class or club
   • Do a 10 minute teach-in {pdf, 1M} before class
   • Show a film about HIV/AIDS {pdf, 1M} in your class or after school
3. Advocate
   • Contact your Senator and support the HIV/AIDS Prevention Act of 2007
4. Raise Public Awareness
   • Hold a Dance-a-thon at your school to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS.
   • Hold an ice-cream social {pdf, 2M} to get people involved in World AIDS Day.
   • Wear red to show your support! Deck yourself out in red; decorate your school, trees, your bike — anything! Just make sure your decorations are biodegradable, or that you clean up afterward!
   • Join the Banner Campaign to Make AIDS History! Create a huge banner with your classmates and display it at your school.
5. Fundraise
   • Hold a fundraiser at your school for Plan’s HIV/AIDS programs in Uganda!
6. Join the YUGA Cause!
   • Join the YUGA World AIDS Day Campaign Cause on Facebook to show your support and stay connected to us throughout the year!
