Plan staff in Bangladesh are mobilizing to provide support to children and families affected by Cyclone Sidr.

Plan’s support will focus on three districts — Baraguna, Putathali and Barisal — and will provide food, clothing, shelter, medical assistance, educational materials and trauma counseling.

Donate Now!Donate today to Plan’s Disaster Fund to help provide urgently-needed emergency assistance to families affected by disasters and crisis.

The death toll from the cyclone now stands at more than 1,700, with nearly half a million homeless. There is extensive damage to 95 per cent of crops in 11 districts, and shrimp hatcheries have been badly hit. The country’s power system collapsed completely; while electricity is slowly being restored, telecommunications are still out in the most severely affected areas.

Plan does not have any active programs in the areas directly affected by the cyclone. Therefore, all sponsored children are presumed to be safe.

We will continue to update this site as more information becomes available.
