Letter from the Editor
March is an exciting month here at Plan - we've got lots of news to share with you!
This week, we are proud to be participating in the annual Commission on the Status of Women session. Nine girls from Plan communities are joining us in key events... they even got to participate in a panel discussion with journalist Mariane Pearl!
We’re also excited to announce that on March 8th we’ll be launching a brand new Because I am a Girl website! Come check it out to learn more about our projects, watch inspiring videos, and join the conversation on the official Because I am a Girl blog.
And on the 20th, we’ll be commemorating our 75th anniversary with a global celebration! Visit our new web section later this month to see photos and videos from celebrations around the world.
Plan celebrates 75 years of helping children
On March 20th, Plan will celebrate our 75th anniversary! We began in 1937 by providing relief to thousands of children caught up in the Spanish Civil War. Today, we are a globally recognized international development organization, working with communities in 50 countries and reaching more than 56.5 million children around the world. It is because of people like you that we have been able to accomplish so much in the past 75 years, and we thank you so much for your continued support.
In honor of our 75th anniversary, we invite you to visit a new section on our website where you can take a trip back to our early days and learn more about our humble beginnings. Here you’ll find pictures, stories and videos of our founders, early sponsored children and more. Don't forget to check back often because we’ll be adding more exciting material throughout the year!
Plan attends this year's CSW
As an organization firmly committed to the fight for gender equality, Plan is proud to participate in this year’s session of the Commission on the Status of Women, currently being held at the UN in New York. We are joined by a delegation of nine girls from Plan communities around the world who are representing Plan and their peers at key CSW events.
In one, the girls participated in a panel discussion called "Breaking Vows: Ending early and forced marriage." Journalist and campaigner Mariane Pearl moderated the discussion and later shared her thoughts about the event:
