March 7, 2013

From March 10-15th, 26 representatives from Plan International will attend the 2013 Comparative and International Education Society conference. The conference, held in New Orleans, is one of the largest meetings of international education professionals in the world.

Plan recognizes the vital role that education plays in providing individuals with the knowledge, skills and competences to participate effectively in society and the economy and is committed to ensuring that all children and youth realize their right to obtain a quality education.

In support of this year’s theme, “Educational Quality: Global Imperatives and Contested Visions,” Plan will chair a number of high-level panel discussions throughout the week. These discussions will be led by distinguished speakers from Plan’s country offices, the UN, and other international non-governmental organizations. Speakers will explore some of the most pressing questions facing educational quality such as:

  • How can quality education be guaranteed for children and youth affected by conflict and crises?
  • What are alternative models in education that best address the needs of marginalized children and youth?
  • How can community participation be harnessed to support learning? And,
  • What are effective collaborative approaches to promoting girls’ education?

In support of the panel discussions, eighteen members of Plan’s staff will present on programs from all four of Plan’s program regions. The discussions will include education in emergencies and conflict settings, early childhood care and development, alternative forms of education for marginalized children, community engagement in education, and financing girls' education.

The presentations reflect the commitment that Plan has to supporting education programs in countries where we work and that it plays in supporting young people to develop the knowledge, skills, and competences to fulfill their full potential.
