Plan USA sponsors six Ghanaian Child Ambassadors in a two-week visit to the United States
Abigail, Baleng, Justice, Christian, Martha and Puobaare are six Ghanaian youth about to cross thousands of miles of land and sea to represent Ghana in the United States.
The Ghanaian Child Ambassador Program is a joint effort organized by Plan, The Diaspora African Forum and the African Communication Agency to improve the lives of children, families and communities affected by poverty in Africa by promoting the exchange of cross-cultural information and the development of cross-cultural awareness and understanding.
“It is a great pleasure for me to welcome the Ghanaian Youth Ambassadors to the United States,” said Ahuma Adodoadji, President and Chief Executive Officer of Plan USA. “This is a rare and unique opportunity for these children, and the experiences they will have in Washington, D.C., New York City, and at our Plan USA headquarters in Rhode Island will undoubtedly be meaningful and unforgettable for everyone involved.”
The two-week visit, which begins with the arrival of the six Ghanaian youth in Washington, D.C on August 18th, will include a number of media and fundraising opportunities in support of Plan’s global initiatives for children in Africa and other nations around the world:
Justice added that, “The Child Ambassador Program has given me the opportunity to explore the international world and interact with important personalities and the media. I feel proud to have been chosen to talk on behalf of all children in Ghana. I expect to see the rights of children in Ghana respected by all.”
By increasing awareness and understanding of poverty and the challenges facing children, their families and communities in Africa particularly in the rural areas as well as Plan’s active role in addressing and helping eliminate these challenges, the visiting youth hope to raise funds for Plan programs that will help communities in Africa.
“This is an experience I will never forget in my lifetime,” Abigail told us. “I come from a small village and will always remember [this]. I hope that other children will also get the opportunity. I will tell the world what Plan has done in my life, in my community and in my country.”
