NY Times journalist gives firsthand account of child sponsorship

Award-winning journalist Nicholas D. Kristof debates global poverty and the benefits of Plan child-sponsorship in a firsthand account in the New York Times.
The two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning writer made an escorted visit* to his Plan-sponsored child, 6-year old Yuneiris, who lives in the Dominican Republic.
Kristof was on a reporting assignment in neighboring Haiti when he approached Plan to see if he could witness firsthand how Yuneiris was getting on. The columnist has been a Plan sponsor since 2004, as were his parents before him.
The article describes Kristof’s voyage of discovery as he arrives at the village in the South West of the Dominican Republic for his first encounter with his sponsored child and his family.
You can read his article, ‘Changing Lives, Mitt by Mitt’ and watch the video in the New York Times column.
Child sponsorship is the best way to help children, families and communities build a future free from poverty. Sponsor a child today!
*Plan is happy to arrange visits for sponsors but does not advocate sponsors making unannounced visits to sponsor families or children.
