An interview with Justice, a Youth Ambassador from Ghana

June 19, 2009
After visiting the U.S. last year as Youth Ambassadors for Plan Ghana, youth return to Ghana more motivated than ever to raise awareness about children's rights.

Last year, six youth from Ghana came to the United States as part of a partnership between Plan Ghana, Plan USA and the Diaspora African Forum. In an effort to promote the exchange of cross-cultural information and the development of cross-cultural awareness and understanding, these six child ambassadors experienced what life was like in the United States, met their American counterparts in schools and shared what their life was like in Ghana.

When they returned to Ghana, each of the child ambassadors used their learning and experience to make a difference in their own communities.

Take Justice, for example. Already motivated and inspired to improve the lives of children in Ghana, his involvement as a child ambassador made him all the more focused.

Since his return, Justice has become heavily involved in the Rights of the Child Club at his local school, rallying children in his community to stand up for their rights. He’s also played an instrumental role in raising awareness of issues that affect children, including the importance of birth registration.

Plan’s vision is of a world in which all children realize their full potential in societies that respect people's rights and dignity. Pivotal to our work is building and strengthening a network of young people, youth groups and organizations, and adult allies who raise awareness and take action on issues that affect children and youth around the world.
