Ramada Franchise Systems, Inc. is the founding corporate sponsor of Plan USA. Since 1994, various properties have worked with us to make a positive difference for children and families in need. Ramada employees often work together and sponsor children as a group effort. Today, there are hundreds of children being sponsored by employees and guests. Hundreds of Ramada hotels throughout the country display Plan USA brochures in their lobbies and guest rooms.
Over the years, Ramada Franchise Systems and their employees have raised funds for Plan USA by holding yard sales at their hotels and through silent auctions and raffles at their annual conventions. These funds have been used to build two health clinics in Zambia, a youth center in Cairo and to build a playground and rebuild a school in the Dominican Republic destroyed by Hurricane Georges in 1998.
Since December of 2000, Jim Verrillo, Dan Lambert and the employees of Ramada Plaza Resorts Orlando/Ft. Lauderdale Vacations (OFV) have been helping Plan USA through their Buck-A-Night program. This simple fundraising approach asks each guest if they are willing to add $1 per night to their bill at checkout. Ramada Plaza Resorts OFV then donates 100% of each dollar raised to Plan USA to support the Children's Emergency Fund. Over three years, this highly effective program has raised nearly $1 million!
In 2003, a portion of the funds helped construct 12 pre-schools in four of the poorest communities in Honduras. This project will benefit approximately 300 children and will also provide the pre-schools with furniture and equipment and provide training for the teachers. This innovative fundraising approach has great long-term impact.
In 2004, Plan USA extends our heartfelt thanks for the generosity and vision of Jim, Dan, the employees of Ramada Plaza Resorts OFV and their many generous guests.
Study Group US has six campuses around the United States with employees donating through payroll deduction to help with this effort. “Last year, our employee efforts helped in Asia, this year, we will take our projects to Africa. Working with Plan gives us a global reach and input about how our charitable giving is used,” stated Sean Hale, Managing Director.
