We believe in the potential of every child but know that it is too often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination — with girls being the most affected. By addressing the root causes of inequality, we ensure that all children can grow up safe, educated and empowered to shape their futures. Together with our supporters and partners, we tackle these challenges from birth to adulthood, helping children prepare for and respond to crises while driving changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels.
Why equality?
Gender equality and children’s rights are fundamental to the realization of human rights. Experience and research show clear connections between achieving equality, fulfilling children’s rights and ending child poverty. When we invest in a child’s future, we not only improve their lives but also the lives of their families and the strength of their communities.
We believe children’s rights are human rights. But when children, especially girls, face violence and oppression, their paths to success are blocked. Together, we must tear down the barriers — both systemic and circumstantial — that stand in their way andclear the path for their next step.
Their next step toward safety. Their next step toward happiness. Their next step toward the future they deserve.
