BRIGHT Impact Evaluation Finds Lasting Results for Girls

A 10-year impact evaluation of Plan's BRIGHT projects finds that schools that had previously participated in the program are seeing lasting results.

Four years after Plan International USA’s Burkinabe Response to Improve Girls’ Chances to Succeed (BRIGHT) project closed, a 10-year evaluation is finding impressive lasting effects.

The $25 million project, funded by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) with field support from USAID, has resulted in many positive impacts. Schools previously part of the BRIGHT program, which began in 2005, continued to be more accessible, have better infrastructure and resources, employ more teachers, and provide more grade levels when compared to schools in unselected villages.

The schools in selected villages also sustained girl-friendly characteristics. Additionally, child marriage is six percent lower in BRIGHT villages, translating to more than 1,500 marriages prevented.
