End FGM

Even today, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a regular occurrence in countries and communities around the world, often leading to infections, pain, complications at child birth, or even death.

In all instances, FGM is a violation of girls’ rights.

More than 140 million girls and women alive today have undergone some form of FGM in Africa and the Middle East, as well as some countries in Asia and Latin America. According to the United Nations, the practice reflects deep-rooted inequality between the sexes and constitutes an extreme form of discrimination against women and girls.

The practice of Female Genital Mutilation is deeply rooted in tradition and societal beliefs.

As part of its reproductive health programming, Plan International USA is on the front lines in the fight to eradicate this harmful and antiquated practice, working together with communities and leaders to provide education and empower girls.

Through its work, Plan has encountered survivors and heroes dedicated to the health and rights of girls everywhere.
