As a woman working in development, investing in your professional growth may feel like a luxury when the pressing needs of your family, organization, and community are calling. Plan International USA’s Women’s Leadership Institute (WLI) offers a unique opportunity to reflect on your own leadership strengths, while sharing best practices in development and harnessing the support of other women leaders from your region.
The WLI is pleased to announce the African Women's Leadership Workshop that will take place on May 7–11, 2018 in Washington, DC.
The African Women's Leadership Workshop
The workshop is specifically designed to foster awareness of your personal leadership style and skills—both existing and desired; provide new leadership tools, knowledge, and skills to promote strong institutional systems, management practices, and programs; and engender greater self-confidence and clarity of your professional goals and personal aspirations.
Topics covered will include:
- Personal and professional leadership skills
- Learning style preferences and how these relate to leadership, teamwork, and communication
- Emotional intelligence and how it applies to leadership within an organization
- Principles of ethical leadership
- Confidence-building habits
- Effective negotiation techniques
- Skills and approaches of a situational leader at work
- Techniques for improved public speaking and media interviews
Plan’s dynamic, supportive environment provides a place for women to learn, practice new skills, and receive immediate feedback from peers and facilitators. The WLI team of experienced and globally recognized trainers/facilitators create an encouraging, safe, and participatory learning environment for the exchange of best practices and experience, strategy development, and skill building.
You will leave reenergized and inspired to return to your work with new skills and a newfound confidence in your ability to effect change.
PLEASE NOTE: Alumnae of prior CEDPA or Plan International USA women’s leadership workshops are not eligible to apply.
A limited number of full scholarships are available to include tuition, international airfare, airport transfers, hotel accommodations (note that participants share double rooms) in Washington DC, emergency medical insurance while in the U.S., reimbursement for U.S. visa, and per diem to cover the costs of meals during the workshop. The application process is highly competitive and no applications will be accepted after the deadline.
Partial scholarships are also available. Applicants who meet the criteria and are able to secure funds to cover their tuition, accommodations and per diem, and/or international airfare will be given preference in the selection process as this will allow WLI to increase the number of available scholarships.
