Senior Program Officer, Promundo

Aapta Garg is a gender specialist with over 12 years of experience in program design and implementation, monitoring and capacity building. She has dedicated her career to supporting and building community-driven programs that support gender justice and foster a world free from violence.

She currently serves as a senior program officer with Promundo, where she focuses primarily on programs in Latin America and the Caribbean, managing initiatives that integrate gender-transformative approaches and focus on structural change in order to address gender and power inequalities. She designs programming and curricula, facilitates capacity building and technical trainings, monitors and evaluates impact, leads research design and implementation, conducts policy analysis and coordinates programs around fatherhood, caregiving and violence prevention, early childhood development and women’s economic empowerment.

She also serves as the global coordinator of the MenCare campaign, as a board member for the North American MenEngage Alliance and as a co-chair for the Coalition to End Gender-based Violence Globally.

She previously worked at Vital Voices Global Partnership as a program coordinator for Latin America and the Caribbean, coordinating the implementation of trainings, programs and emergency assistance grants related to gender-based violence and human trafficking. Prior to her time at Vital Voices, she worked as a community liaison and legal assistant at MFY Legal Services, where she oversaw projects related to community development and advocacy on behalf of low-income New Yorkers.

Aapta received her master’s degree in international development with a focus on gender and development from American University’s School of International Service, and received her bachelor’s degree from Vassar College with a focus on international relations.
