Byronie
Youth Advisory Board Member
University of Oregon
Byronie McMahon (she/her) is a freshman at the University of Oregon, where she studies education and political science. She hopes to use this degree to impact public educational policy and become a teacher. Following her involvement on the Portland Public Schools’ Board of Education, she found a connection with educational advocacy. She is now a passionate advocate for educational equity and student voice in educational decision-making.
During her time on the school board, Byronie was directly involved in the school budgeting process. Balancing Portland’s $1.9-billionbudget, she worked on investments in access to period products and reproductive health services in school-based clinics and youth clubs. She has worked with Multnomah County, the Oregon Legislature and the Oregon Commission for Women as a youth advocate on educational issues regarding investment and the State School Fund.
Byronie joined Plan USA’s Youth Advisory Board in 2023. She currently serves on the recruitment subcommittee for the board. She is deeply committed to Plan’s mission of empowering and developing youth female leaders and looks forward to the good work to come.
In her free time Byronie enjoys yoga and spending time with her younger sister.
Quote: “Plan USA and this YAB has the ability to impact the lives of girls and youth across the country. Creating meaningful change is the goal for any organizer, and I am so grateful to be among this group of people and have the opportunity to do so.”
