Rice University
Maham (she/her) is a sophomore at Rice University, where she is on a pre-med track double-majoring in cell biology and genetics, and social policy analysis. At Rice, she is a head mentor for a research mentorship program as part of the school’s undergraduate research journal and a features section writer for the university newspaper. She has her emergency medical technician certification and serves as a part of the Rice Emergency Medical Services team. She is also a research assistant at a cardiovascular research lab at Baylor College of Medicine and in the past, has had her research published in the American Journal of Medical Genetics.
Maham joined Plan International USA’s Youth Advisory Board at the beginning of 2021. She was one of the coordinators for the 2021 Youth Leadership Academy and participated in an International Day of the Girl takeover at AstraZeneca. She is currently helping the Plan public engagement and advocacy team design Plan’s advocacy strategy. Her passion lies at the intersection of health care and social issues, and she hopes to work with Plan and other organizations to combat issues regarding women’s health and equitable health care access.
During her free time, you can find Maham crocheting, doing henna for her friends or working on her Etsy store, all while jamming out to Taylor Swift.
