Thuba

Youth Advisory Board Member

Talladega College

Thuba (she/her) is an international student from Zimbabwe, majoring in psychology at Talladega College in Alabama. She is a serious-minded young lady who is deeply compelled to champion the underdog, as she has experienced the inequalities affecting young women and girls on the ground, particularly where she is from in Zimbabwe. In 2019, she was elected as the junior mayor of her city and was responsible for engaging with city councilors and policymakers to lobby for the rights of girls and young women in her city.

She also worked with Plan International Zimbabwe as a youth advocate, participating in events such as the Generation Equality Forum held in Paris in 2021, for which she was featured on the news. Thuba has also had the pleasure of working directly with organizations such as Women Deliver and the Adolescent Girls Investment Plan, as well as with UNESCO as part of their intergenerational dialogues and for the 66th Commission on the Status of Women conference, where she was a panelist in 2021.

She is particularly interested in sexual and reproductive health and rights, as well as the education and economic empowerment of various minorities, with a special focus on young girls and women. Thuba is part of a nonprofit student-led organization called HBCUFirst, where she is the team lead of the mentoring program. She joined the Plan USA Youth Advisory Board in 2022 and looks forward to learning more about the American perspective on advocacy.
