The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation

The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation and Plan International USA have partnered since 2014 to reduce morbidity due to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH)-related diseases in Zimbabwe and Liberia.

In Zimbabwe’s Goromonzi, Marondera, and Mutasa districts, The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation supported a project through their flagship Replenish Africa Initiative (RAIN), a program designed to provide more than 6 million Africans with access to safe water, sanitation, and hygiene by 2020. The project directly impacted more than 4,000 students, staff, and community members. It achieved the following objectives: improved access to adequate and safe water for both drinking and domestic uses; reduced school absenteeism due to WASH-related diseases; reduced time spent collecting water among children and women; promoted community involvement in the management of WASH activities in the three districts; and strengthened private/public partnerships for WASH in schools and the community.

We are excited to continue working with Coca-Cola in Liberia on a project in Lofa County, funded under RAIN and Coca-Cola’s Bolstering Africa’s Resilience (BAR) program, an initiative intended to create a holistic unified response to Ebola in Liberia. Upon completion, the project will significantly improve health services to four rural communities and adjacent areas by updating WASH infrastructure in health facilities, directly providing more than 1,900 patients, staff, and community members with improved access to clean water and sanitation.
