URGENT: Relief needed for fire survivors in Cox’s Bazar

A devastating fire swept through Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh, the world’s largest refugee settlement, on Jan. 9, destroying 1,200 shelters and leaving Rohingya refugee families with nothing. This comes on the heels of massive fires that tore through Cox’s Bazar less than a year ago in March 2021— which killed 15 people and displaced 48,000 more.

For many, this fire took everything. Clothes, food, important papers and precious sentimental belongings that survived the journey to Bangladesh from Myanmar. Families here want a better future, but hundreds have just lost everything all over again.

Now, with their shelters burned to ash, girls’ and young women’s safety is greatly threatened once more.

Plan has been working with the community in Cox’s Bazar since 2017. With staff who live and work locally, we’re able to provide safe, temporary shelters, food and psychosocial counseling for children right now. Your support is what makes it possible for us to be there for girls during emergencies like this.

We’re responding immediately to provide relief. But we need your support to make sure more girls in crises are protected. Your donation to the Humanitarian Response Fund supports Plan International USA projects focused on protection, conflict areas, creating safe spaces during emergencies, disaster preparedness and fostering resilience in the toughest of circumstances.

We’re ready to respond. Are you?
