Youth Agency

Youth play a critical role at all levels of Plan International USA’s work, both in the U.S. and in our program work abroad.

Our Youth Advisory Board (YAB) is a youth-led group with members between the ages of 12 and 22, which advises all of Plan’s work, including in discussions with the Board of Directors and Executive Team. The YAB also develops projects and campaigns related to Plan’s work, through the community of teenage activists in Youth United for Global Action and Awareness (YUGA): a nationwide network of ambitious young people who take action on world issues. Through campaigns and awareness-raising activities, YUGA members educate their schools and communities on global challenges and engage them in finding solutions.

Youth are critical in our program work abroad as well. As part of our child-centered community development approach, we work with youth, their families, and communities to identify problems and implement solutions.

Plan works to strengthen the capacity of youth to demand and realize their rights in homes, communities, at school, and from their governments. From helping children to speak out on domestic violence, to supporting youth delegates at international AIDS conferences, Plan helps youth engage in citizenship, express their views, and influence decision-makers. To ensure the participation of all youth, we also deliver targeted programs that reach the most marginalized and vulnerable groups.
