The Plan International USA Youth Advisory Board met in Washington, D.C. in early January for one of our semiannual retreats. During our productive weekend, we met with Plan International USA staff members to learn more about the organization’s new strategy, which puts girls at the center of our program approach, and brainstormed ways in which the YAB can be supportive moving forward. We also met with Plan International USA President & CEO Dr. Tessie San Martin to discuss Plan’s biggest projects right now and to update her on the YAB’s current work. A large part of the weekend was focused on Plan’s new strategy for young people in the U.S., and the YAB participated in planning sessions to provide feedback on the youth-centered engagement opportunities

The YAB also nominated a member to represent Plan at the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards in March (Josh K.)! And, after reviewing applications and conducting interviews, we invited five new members to join our board! It’s always so enjoyable reuniting with my fellow YAB members from all over the country at our retreats, and we were all excited to hear about Plan’s work, as well as catch up with each other and enjoy exploring D.C. This was an amazing opportunity for us to reaffirm our role in Plan’s mission, and provide our unique perspectives in concrete ways.

Moreover, it is always heartwarming to get together with the YAB team and bond with one another. We are looking forward to continuing the progress made at the January retreat and welcoming five new members to our growing board!
