Sexual and reproductive health and rights
We increase access to quality sexual health services and eliminate harmful practices such as female genital mutilation and child marriage.
Girls are often robbed of the right to make their own life decisions — from what happens to their bodies, to when and whom they marry. We work with girls to identify, prioritize, design and monitor programs and solutions that address their unique and diverse health needs, including menstrual health.
Our menstrual health programs involve more than just distributing period products. We work to end period stigma and raise awareness about period health, while building safe bathrooms where girls can manage their periods at school. By improving menstrual health and tackling period-shame, we can improve girls’ school attendance and performance, raise girls’ self-esteem and enable girls to fully participate in all aspects of society.
Ensuring young people realize their right to sexual and reproductive health is critical to achieving gender equality. We collaborate with health care providers to ensure that comprehensive, accessible and adolescent-friendly health services are available for all young people in the communities where we work.

The Plan training really helped me. I was a bit scared at first, but I learned that it’s normal, natural and not something dirty. Before the training I was embarrassed to talk about my period. Now I can talk about it openly without any shame.
Your gift to Plan International USA will be used where needed most, to help create sustainable change and address the root causes of poverty and inequality.
